People of color know what it's like to feel seen, but unseen. When we’re visible, we’re usually typecast. We define ourselves differently than how people see us, which is why we seek spaces for self-definition.

Defining Desi is an event series and creative community which explores what it means identify as South Asian or desi in a time of political upheaval, and how we can use storytelling and activism to advocate for our community and others. This space is for everyone — we come together to support the South Asian community but welcome people of all identities to show their support and share their stories.

In the pandemic, I launched a creative writing club with over 100 members across 3 global chapters in South Asia, the US and the UK. Through events and conversation, we help emerging writers learn about the industry, sharpen their skills and workshop their writing in small groups of 4-5 people.
